Bruce Frederick Joseph Springsteen (born September 23, 1949), nicknamed “The Boss”, is an American singer-songwriter. He records and tours with the E Street Band. Springsteen is widely known for his brand of heartland rock infused with pop hooks, poetic lyrics, and Americana sentiments centered on his native New Jersey.

Springsteen’s recordings have tended to alternate between commercially accessible rock albums and somber folk-oriented works. Much of his status stems from the concerts and marathon shows in which he and the E Street Band perform intense ballads, rousing anthems, and party rock and roll songs, amongst which he intersperses whimsical or deeply emotional stories.

The Stooges (also known as Iggy & The Stooges) are an American rock band that were first active from 1967 to 1974, then reformed in 2003. The Stooges sold few records in their original incarnation and often performed for indifferent or hostile audiences. Nevertheless, the Stooges are widely regarded as instrumental in the rise of punk rock, as well as influential to alternative rock and heavy metal. Singer Iggy Pop and his often outrageous onstage performances were frequently the main focus of attention. They reformed in 2003, with bassist Mike Watt replacing the deceased Dave Alexander, touring extensively and releasing an album of new material. On January 6, 2009, guitarist Ron Asheton was found dead from a heart attack in his Ann Arbor home; several months later, the band announced plans to continue performing with later guitarist James Williamson replacing Asheton.

The Stooges have been nominated for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame eight times, the most recent being in 2009.

Editors are a British indie rock band based in Birmingham, who formed in 2002. Previously known as Pilot, The Pride and Snowfield, the band consists of Tom Smith (lead vocals, rhythm guitar, piano), Chris Urbanowicz (lead guitar and synthesizer), Russell Leetch (bass guitar synth and live backing vocals) and Ed Lay (drums, percussion and live backing vocals).

Editors have so far released two platinum studio albums, selling over two million copies between them worldwide. Their debut album The Back Room was released in 2005. It contained hits such as “Munich” and “Blood” and the following year received a Mercury Prize nomination. Their follow-up album An End Has A Start went to number 1 in the UK Album Chart in June 2007 and earned the band a Brit Awards nomination for best British Band. It also spawned another Top 10 hit single with the release of “Smokers Outside the Hospital Doors”.

After their continued success in the charts, sold out tours and numerous headlining festival slots, Editors were lauded as the second biggest British band of the decade after Arctic Monkeys by The Mail on Sunday newspaper. Their brand of dark indie rock is habitually compared to the sound of bands such as Echo & the Bunnymen, Joy Division, Interpol and U2. The band’s third album, In This Light and On This Evening, was released in October 2009.

Folds became attached to a piano when his father brought one home when he was 9, the result of a barter trade his father made with a customer who was unable to pay for his work. During this time, Folds listened to songs by Elton John and Billy Joel on AM radio, and learned them by ear. During his years at R.J. Reynolds High School in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Folds played in several bands as the pianist, bassist or drummer.

nordloef has played at Blip Festival in New York and Scandinavia’s biggest chiptune festival. He’s been on a mini tour around the UK together with the British chiptune artist We Are the Future and has played at all kinds of shows ranging from secret clubs in farms to techno parties in forests.

Foo Fighters is an American rock band formed in 1995. Singer and guitarist Dave Grohl formed the group as a one-man project after the dissolution of his previous band, Nirvana, in 1994.

Dave Grohl joined the grunge group Nirvana as its drummer in 1990 after the break up of Grohl’s previous band: Scream. In order to occupy himself during tours, he took a guitar with him and wrote songs. Grohl held back these songs from the band; he said in 1997, “I was in awe of frontman Kurt Cobain’s songs. And intimidated. I thought it was best that I keep my songs to myself.” Instead, Grohl occasionally booked studio time to record demos, and even issued a cassette of some of those songs called Pocketwatch under the pseudonym “Late!” in 1992.

John Robert “Joe” Cocker, OBE (born 20 May 1944) is an English rock/blues singer who came to popularity in the 1960s, and is most known for his gritty voice, his idiosyncratic arm movements while performing and his cover versions of popular songs, particularly those of The Beatles.

In 1963, Cocker began dating Eileen Webster, also a resident of Sheffield. The couple dated intermittently for the next thirteen years, separating permanently in 1976. In 1978, Cocker moved onto a ranch owned by Jane Fonda in Santa Barbara, California. Pam Baker, a local summer camp director and fan of Cocker’s music convinced the actress to rent the house to Cocker. Baker began dating Cocker and they eventually married on 11 October 1987. The couple currently reside on the Mad Dog Ranch in Crawford, Colorado.

Cocker is not related to fellow Sheffield-born musician Jarvis Cocker, despite this being a rumour (particularly in Australia, where Jarvis’ father Mack Cocker was a radio DJ who allowed listeners to believe he was Cocker’s brother).

Chan Marshall was born in Georgia. Marshall’s father, Charlie, is a blues musician and itinerant pianist. Her childhood involved much upheaval, with Marshall living throughout the Southern United States (Greensboro, North Carolina; Bartlett, Tennessee; and Georgia and South Carolina), back and forth between parents and her grandmother.

On Microcastle/Weird Era Cont., Cox sacrifices himself— or at least, his colorful persona— for the sake of Deerhunter’s art. On stage, he really does sacrifice his illness-damaged body. “I take what I can/ I give what I have left.” From a band who, unlike their peers No Age, have studiously avoided politics, spreading the idea that salvation can be found, or at least glimpsed, in art— let alone in stupid pop records![…]
